About Gary

Since 1980, Gary owned and single-handedly ran Laguna Beach Properties for 41 years. In his youth, a twist of fate saved his life and shaped the man so many have come to love. In 1967, Gary dropped a college class triggering him into the draft and Vietnam. There, he contracted malaria and nearly died in the military hospital where he was transferred. After recovering, he was returned to service in Vietnam, only to discover that his entire unit had been ambushed and killed. If not for his illness, Gary would have perished with them. This life experience may help explain why Gary treats everyone he knows as a good friend.

For Gary, managing LBP was taking care of family. So when he decided to transition LBP to a new owner, he was determined his clients and tenants would continue to receive the same old-school, attentive treatment they had always had. This is how Dave got involved.

A Word From Dave

Five years after Gary casually mentioned he was considering retiring and selling LBP and I let him know I was interested, he finally called. He used a formal process and a broker – he wanted to make sure his property owners and tenants would be well taken care of. The verdict came back from the broker and I lost — outbid by several large national companies for an amount much larger than I could pay.

But then…I got another call. Gary wanted to go with me. The broker said, I don’t agree with him, but it’s his business. Gary wanted to make sure his business – his family – were protected and cared for in the same manner that he cared for them. That’s the company he built. And that’s the company we continue to run to this day. The same values, the same care, and the same family business.

By the way, Gary still has a desk in our office and always will.
